Susan Still speaks on behalf of those whose lives have been impacted by domestic violence. She is a survivor of 24 years of abuse by her former husband. Their case is unique, as in December 2004 Justice John F. O’Donnell handed Ulner Still a 36 year sentence, landmark for New York State, as the longest sentence given for the crime of domestic violence where the victim survived. Instrumental in the conviction was a videotape he had one of their children film while he was abusing her. Susan has appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Oprah’s LifeClass, Oprah Where Are They Now, and 20/20 with Diane Sawyer, to bring awareness to domestic violence and its effects on families. She speaks at conferences nationwide, to law enforcement, attorneys, and judges on the criminal justice response and travels to businesses speaking on the effects domestic violence has on the workplace and what employers can do to help. Susan participates in trainings for law enforcement, crime victim advocates, and other community responders, and has spoken on military bases, at youth conferences, high schools and colleges about the warning signs, and the importance of breaking free of abusive relationships. Hear Fire-Brown discuss how she turned a childhood of abuse and tragedy into triumph and advocacy. She shares how healing oneself can help start a movement of healing others. Originally from Newark, New Jersey, Fire-Brown is an adult survivor of child abuse who has made her home in Metro-Atlanta for the past 20 years. There, she is the Founding Facilitator of ASCA-Atlanta, a weekly self-help support group for adult survivors of childhood abuse. Several years ago, Fire-Brown found herself triggered by memories, flashbacks and nightmares of her childhood sexual molestation. After struggling with the PTSD and traumatic impact of the abuse, she sought therapy and began to blog about her experience and healing journey. Through a Google search, she found ASCA and began working the 21 Steps to recovery. She journaled about the process and wound up with a book titled “Journal of a Suicide Failed,” which includes several paintings she did along the journey. At the age of 49 she put herself through school to become a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer. She is now a Registered Echo Tech and very proud of her accomplishments. Marica uses this platform in to provide programs in the community for youth/ young adults, that aid in the prevention of victimization and perpetration of interpersonal violence. Harish Iyer is an activist for a number of socio-cultural and environmental issues.[He is an equal rights activist, known for his campaigns for the rights of the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) community, children, women, animals as well as survivors of Child Sexual Abuse .Pink Pages named him one of India's seven most influential gay and lesbian people and one of the ten individuals to be awarded the Zindagi Live Awards for his work in creating awareness on child sexual abuse. On 29 June 2013, The Guardian, the British national daily named him in the list of the 100 most influential LGBT people in the world for 2013 and the only Indian on the list. His life inspired two films, director Onir's I Am and Ranadeep Bhattacharya and Judhajit Bagchi directed Amen. In I Am, Actor Sanjay Suri plays Abhimanyu, a child sexual abuse survivor, the character inspired by Harish's life and that of Hyderabad based fashion designer Ganesh Nallari.
